WhatsApp Quality Rating

What the WhatsApp quality rating is, how it is calculated, and what happens if your rating drops.
Last reviewed: September 2, 2026Reviewed by: Convoup Platform & Technical Operations

The WhatsApp quality rating is a score (High, Medium, or Low) that Meta assigns to your WhatsApp Business Account based on message quality, block rates, and user feedback — affecting your ability to send messages.

01
Why This Matters

The Problem

A Low quality rating can result in reduced messaging limits, restrictions on template usage, or account suspension. Most businesses do not know their rating until it is too late.

02
Deep Dive

What WhatsApp Quality Rating Actually Is

Meta calculates your quality rating based on: the percentage of messages that result in blocks by recipients, the quality of your message templates, user reports and feedback, and compliance with Meta's messaging policy. The rating is displayed in Meta Business Manager under WhatsApp > Insights. A High rating means no restrictions. A Medium rating means Meta is monitoring your account. A Low rating means restrictions may be imposed — including reduced message limits and template bans.

In Practice

Real-World Examples

A business sends promotional templates to contacts who did not opt in — recipients block the messages, and the quality rating drops to Low.

A business maintains a High rating by sending only opted-in contacts relevant, well-crafted templates.

Common Mistakes

Not monitoring quality rating — check it weekly in Meta Business Manager.

Ignoring block rates — a spike in blocks means your messages are unwelcome.

Sending too many marketing messages — frequency fatigue leads to blocks and rating drops.
